      The ACORN…!!!
Who knew it was more than just Humble ???

      2 Uses Acorn Flour & Acorn coffee ☕️. ..

      ACORN FLOUR:
Acorn flour is made from ground acorns, which must first be processed to remove bitter tannins, either by boiling or soaking in water. After shelling and drying the nuts, they are ground into a flour consistency and can be used in baking or for other recipes like noodles or thickening. This gluten-free flour is a historical staple that can be used to make dense breads, pancakes, and other dishes.
      How to make acorn flour
Collect and test acorns: Gather fresh acorns and discard any that float in water, as they may be bug-infested.
Shell the acorns: You can soften the shells by microwaving them for 30 seconds or boiling them to make them easier to remove.
Remove the kernels: Take out the nut kernels from the shells and discard the shells.
Remove tannins: This is the most crucial step.
Hot water method: Boil the shelled acorns in water, then drain the water. Repeat this process until the water runs clear, which can take about an hour.
Cold water method: Soak the shelled acorns in cold water for a day or two, changing the water every few hours until it is no longer brown.
Dry the leached acorns: Once the tannins are removed, dry the acorns completely using a food dehydrator or in an oven on a low setting.
Grind the acorns: Use a grinder to turn the dried acorns into a powder or flour. You can either grind them into a fine powder or leave them coarser for a substitute for crushed nuts.
Use or store: The flour is now ready to use in recipes, or you can store it in an airtight jar for future use.
      Nutritional profile
High in energy, protein, and fat.
Good source of carbohydrates and fiber.
      Culinary uses
Baking: Used in gluten-free baking to make breads, muffins, and cakes.
Thickening: Can be used as a thickener for soups and sauces.
Noodles: Used to make traditional dishes like Korean Dotoriguksu (acorn noodles).
Other dishes: Used in recipes for pancakes, crepes, dumplings, and even for making acorn oil.

      ACORN COFFEE ☕️:
Acorn coffee is a caffeine-free beverage made from roasted oak acorns, offering a warm, nutty taste. The process involves boiling acorns to reduce tannins, then drying, roasting, and grinding them into a powder that can be brewed like coffee. It is a traditional Lithuanian drink and a coffee substitute used during times when coffee was scarce.
      How it’s made and used
Preparation: Acorns are first boiled in their shells to remove bitter tannins, then shelled, dried, and roasted until dark brown. They are then ground into a powder.
Brewing: One teaspoon of the ground powder can be steeped in hot water for about 5 minutes, similar to how you would brew regular coffee or use a French press.
Serving: It can be enjoyed on its own, or with milk, creamers, honey, butter, or spices. It can be made by boiling it in water for 3-5 minutes, or simply by stirring the powder into hot water.
      Characteristics
Flavor: It has a warm, nutty flavor that some find remotely similar to coffee, though it doesn’t taste exactly like it.
Caffeine-free: It is a caffeine-free alternative to coffee, making it suitable for everyone.
Nutritional value: It is considered an antioxidant-rich drink.
Tradition: It is an ancient Lithuanian drink and was also used as a coffee substitute in other parts of the world during times of scarcity.
